Overconsumption
British research has shown that the average woman owns 2,400 articles of clothing over her lifetime. The Circle of Clothing, which takes the form of a clothesline, symbolizes the life process from birth to death. The piece involves the collaboration of 120 designers, artists, and private individuals, who are upcycling 2,400 white, pink, and red articles of clothing. Second-hand clothes and a wide variety of objects collected by the artist will form a single large art installation. The project discusses the contemporary phenomenon of overconsumption in a playful, accessible way.
Pet van de Luijtgaarden will be working on his project in the sculpture garden from 19 May to 25 July 2014. The Circle of Clothing will be on view from 26 July until 17 August 2014.
