Route Van Gogh Europe: follow in Vincent’s footsteps through Europe

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) is one of the world’s most well-loved artists. Route Van Gogh Europe makes it possible to visit the various locations where Vincent van Gogh lived and where his art is on display. Together, they tell the story of the artist’s life and show his development: from the little boy in Brabant to one of the great artists who would change the course of art history.

Visit, for example, Vincent’s birthplace in Zundert, tour the psychiatric institution in Saint-Remy or view the exceptional Van Gogh collections at the Kröller-Müller Museum or the Musée d’Orsay.

Van Gogh at the Kröller-Müller Museum

Helene Kröller-Müller was a huge fan of Vincent van Gogh. Thanks to Helene, the museum boasts the world’s second largest Van Gogh collection. The collection includes almost 90 Van Gogh paintings. Furthermore, the museum owns more than 180 drawings by the great master.

With the paintings in the Van Gogh Gallery, you can follow Vincent's journey through Europe. The potato eaters in Brabant, his Self-portrait in Paris or The garden of the asylum at Saint-Rémy in southern France. The now world-famous Terrace of a café at night (Arles, 1888), which Helene purchased in June 1914, remains the centrepiece of the Van Gogh Gallery in the current Kröller-Müller Museum.
